Dominic McCourt is a British abstract artist whose practice centres on non-literal mapping. Through colour, symbols, and layered mark-making, his work explores how memory, personal experiences, love, and loss shape the ways we perceive and navigate the world.
In 2026, McCourt presented his first solo exhibition, The Magpie, at 70 Square Metres in Shanghai. Featuring new acrylic paintings, the exhibition explores how symbols can serve as points of orientation in the absence of familiar anchors, drawing on personal memories and emotional experiences.
This film documents McCourt's artistic practice and solo exhibition in Shanghai. Through interviews, observations of his painting process, close-ups of his artworks, and footage of the exhibition, the film offers a glimpse into his creative approach and the transformation of personal experiences into an abstract visual language.
