In an academic context, the "Stagnation Point" is a transdisciplinary concept whose core refers to a critical state of being. In philosophy and sociology, it describes a phase of stasis experienced by societies, cultures, or individuals—often associated with periods of transformation, upheaval, or transition. It suggests a temporal and spatial suspension, manifesting as a fleeting state of inaction or anticipation. The stagnation point is not a terminus but a pivotal juncture, signaling an imminent shift.
From this perspective, I adopt the gaze of a "disenchanted local" , situating myself within the ephemeral winter landscapes of Northeast China to meticulously observe and capture the minute fluctuations and cultural flows of the everyday. Through elements such as ice blocks, frozen river surfaces, shipyard communities, and rising smoke, the work attempts to seize a "suspended present continuous." This contradictory state is juxtaposed with the unfinished modernity of Northeastern society, reflecting the complex tension between solidification and fluidity amidst social change.
Ice, as a medium, serves as both a physical carrier of the landscape and a profound metaphor. It symbolizes the unique climatic and cultural identity of the Northeast, reflecting the region's multifaceted nature. Ice represents both solidification and cooling, yet it also metaphors a state of transition—much like the paradox between the rigid and the fluid in a changing society. Ice blocks suspended in the air embody the quality of the "now." They are metaphors for memory: unbound by history, yet inextricably linked to reality. This state of suspension is not merely physical freezing, but a temporal gaze that reveals the amorphous state between flow and stasis.
The ephemeral winter landscapes—whether temporary structures or the frozen expanse of the river—constitute a vital component of the work. They exhibit a brief yet intense presence, a metaphor for "temporary eternity." Frozen in the extreme cold, they leave a transient trace in the depths of time. At a given moment, both the world and the marks of human activity appear transient and fragile, yet impossible to ignore.
The landscape of the Songhua River Shipyard community exists neither as a vessel for eternal nostalgia nor as an idealized utopia. The space here is fluid, bearing the imprints of both the past and the present. Its evolution, like scars etched onto the ice, solidifies at an irreversible moment, reflecting the multiple identities and complex history of this land.
The thick smoke billowing from heating chimneys, much like the white mist exhaled by a skater, serves as a symbol of industrialization while hinting at the folding and flowing of culture and identity. This state of flux is the very epitome of the cultural pulse and identity formation of this region.
在学术语境中,「滞点」是一个跨学科的概念,其核心指涉的是临界状态。哲学与社会学中,滞点通常用来描述社会、文化或个体经历的停滞阶段,往往与转型、变革或过渡时期相关。它暗示着时间与空间的暂时凝固,表现为一种短暂的无所作为或等待状态。滞点并非终结,而是一个转折点,标志着即将发生变化的信号。
在这一视角下,我以「祛魅的在地者」的目光将自己置身于东北冬季的临时景观中,细致观察并捕捉日常中的微小变动与文化流动。通过冰块、结冰的江面、船厂社区与烟雾等元素,作品试图捕捉一个悬浮的现在时,将这种矛盾状态与东北社会未完成的现代性相对照,反映出社会变迁中的固化与流动之间的复杂关系。
冰这一介质在作品中不仅是实体景观的承载体,更是一种深层的隐喻。它象征着东北地区独特的气候与文化特征,反映出地方的多重面貌。冰的存在,既是凝固与冷却的象征,也隐喻着处于过渡中的状态,正如社会在变迁中固化与流动之间的矛盾。悬浮在空中的冰块,呈现出「现在时」的特质。它们也是对记忆的隐喻——未被历史所束缚,却与现实紧密相连。冰的悬浮状态不仅是物理上的凝结,更是一种时间的凝视,展现了流动与停滞之间的无定形状态。
冬日的临时景观同样构成了作品中的重要组成部分。无论是临时搭建的场景,还是结冰的江面,都表现出一种短暂但又强烈的存在感,是临时永恒性的隐喻。它们以极寒的形式被冻结,仿佛在时间的深处留下了一个短暂的痕迹。在某一时刻,万物与人类活动的痕迹在时间纬度中或许都显得无常、脆弱,而又不可忽视。
松花江船厂社区的景观既非永恒的乡愁载体,也不是作为理想化的乌托邦而存在。这里的空间是流动的,带着曾经和正在发生的痕迹。它的变迁,如同冰面上划过的痕迹,凝固在某个不可逆的瞬间,折射出这片土地的多重身份与复杂的历史。
供暖烟囱中飘出的浓烟,像滑冰者呼出的白雾,既是工业化的象征,也暗示着文化与身份的折叠与流动。这种流动的状态正是这片土地的文化脉络和身份形态的缩影。
